2010 MIDDLEBURY VERMONT BIKE TRIP

When: WEDNESDAY, July 14 thru SATURDAY, July 17, 2010

Description: Middlebury Vt. is a quaint college town developed around the dramatic Otter Creek and Otter Creek Falls. The house we will use is located a short distance from the town in East Middlebury on Lower Plains Road. The area offers excellent biking terrain for road and mountain bikes. In addition, non-riding guests have access to wonderful scenic hiking trails and several historic museums, not to mention typical Vermont culture and shopping opportunities.

Entertainment: Middlebury is a college town and celebrates their annual "Festival on the Green" July 12 - 17 with live free music entertainment every evening in the town Park. It concludes with a festive STREET DANCE on Saturday, July 17. Festival Web site

Time of Arrival and Lodging: The base for riding and social activities will be the Madison Ski House. Skylands has booked it from Wednesday, July 14 thru Saturday, July 17. The house sleeps up to 25 people. There are four rooms upstairs and two downstairs, all with bunk beds. There are three bathrooms with showers. A full kitchen and dining area allow meals to be prepared at the house. A comfortable living room has two couches, easy chairs, and a side bar counter for after bike ride socialization. (BYOB) Bring bedding, toiletries and a small floor fan. (No A.C.)

Alternative Lodging: If all available space at the house is taken (first come, first served) you may find motel or camp site lodging in the East Middlebury area near the ski house location. A Google search will show you what's available with pricing. A suggested web site is: www.addisoncounty.com . Follow the LODGING link. Two recommended choices are the Blue Spruce Motel or the Courtyard by Marriott. The Branbury State Park will be a destination for a club ride and there are camping facilities in that area as well.

Arrival/Departure: The Ski House is available for us on Wednsday July 14. You can arrive that afternoon and stay through Saturday if you wish or ARRIVE and DEPART as your schedule permits, all for the $10.00/person fee. You must indicate what days you will participate when you register with Buz Tomasino.

Meals: In general, meals at the house are self-prepared. We can have group breakfasts or evening dinners at the house. On our last night,Saturday we will go to dinner as a club at a local restaurant. Other foods provided by the club for your use will be: apples, bananas, oranges, apple & orange juices, milk, oatmeal, eggs & bacon, pancake mix, sausages for breakfasts; wheat and rye breads, turkey, ham, cheeses, lettuce and tomatoes for lunches. You will have to bring any other foods that you require.

Cost: All this for just $10.00/person for as long as you can share the fun.
