Augusta Cyclocross Series The Augusta
Cyclocross Series is entering it's sixth year. Held in November
at the spacious and scenic Sussex County Fairgrounds in the
northwestern corner of New Jersey, this is basically cyclocross
for the locals, although racers from New York, Pennsylvania and
Connecticut compete every week. The course is about 3 Km, with a
couple of power hills, a screaming descent, artificial barriers
and a run up. The surface is mostly grass, with some gravel and
short sections of asphalt. Part of the course winds in and out of
a few of the Fairgrounds' horse barns, a nice respite when it's
raining. Prize money is based on turnout, but there's usually a
couple of hundred dollars for the Men's A and Women's top three.
The entry fee is $10-$25. November 25 is the NJ Jersey State
Championship, but the race is open to out-of-staters. More
information at www.skylandscycling.com.
