Advil-ChapStick Women’s Cycling Team Continues It's Winning Ways
Nelson & Labance Finish 1 – 2 at Bear Mountain Classic

May 14, 2006

On a cold and wet day in Harriman State Park in Harriman, NY, the Advil–Chapstick Women's Cycling Team won for the 3rd weekend in a row, this time with Emma Nelson taking the top spot on the podium. On a grueling climb with about 40 miles left in the race, Nelson’s teammate Heather Labance, winner of last weeks Jiminy Peak RR, decided it was time to up the tempo, and now found herself alone with only 3 riders chasing, one of them being her teammate Nelson. Advil-Chapstick now had the numbers and had teammates Reem Jishi, Elisa Gagnon and Mara Miller to patrol the chase group. The 4 stayed away. Expecting Nelson to lead out her teammate, the fight was on for Labance’s wheel; but the Advil-ChapStick girls had a surprise in store. With about 600 meters to the finish Nelson revved up the pace. Instead of Labance staying on her teammate’s wheel, she sat, and now Nelson had a gap and gave it full gas. By the time Rebecca Wellons took up the chase, it was too late, and Nelson powered to her way to her 2nd victory of the year. Behind Nelson, Labance came around Wellons to grab 2nd in a finish where the top three spots were separated by inches. Rounding out a great day for the team were Mara Miller in 7th, Elisa Gagnon in 8th and Reem Jishi in 20th.
